Om

Inspired by re-reading Terry Pratchett's "Small Gods"

Om's head

Inspired by re-reading Terry Pratchett's "Small Gods"!

Fountain

Buds?

Any botanists out there? Taken today in St John's churchyard, off Grainger Street, Newcastle

Leaves and Berries

Another macro shot of random vegetation

Marble

Just a texture shot taken with the 100mm Canon macro lens

Berries

Another early test of the Canon 100mm macro lens

Rough landing

But what is it?

Still playing with that macro lens[1]. This is a close view of an everyday object[2]. Anyone like to guess what it is? [1] Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro USM [2] To use the traditional phrase

The Fallen

Some nice autumn colours on a fallen leaf. Lens: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM.

Mortar 2

Newcastle Town Walls - cropped version

Moss

Growing on the wall around St John's Church, Newcastle

Moss 2

A closer crop and a slightly different conversion. Things like this make me want a true macro lens...

Vital Equipment

It occurred to me that I had no DR plan for making espresso. So I got a new machine to be the primary, and I've put the old one in a cupboard to be the emergency stand-by espresso maker.

Emerson Chambers Clock

Monument Mall Detail

Earl Grey

Seen a wee bit closer than normal. At the long end of a Sigma 150-500mm, with 2x doubler. Taken hand-held, sitting down for a bit of stability.

The Crossing

Wooden structure at the Centre for Life

Weathered

Looks like he's been standing there a little too long.

Ripples

Glass block in the wall of Newcastle's Centre for Life

The Lion's Mane

Close view of one of the lions beneath Newcastle's Chinese Arch

Face

Detail on the archway to All Saints Cemetery in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne

River God Up Close

Now this is why I like having a full-frame sensor. Cropped down from the previous image in my photostream to show off the detail. Canon 5D Mk II with the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens, 1/500sec at f/5. Minimal tweaking in Lightroom. Now the water's been turned off, it's possible to really appreciate the detail in this sculpture without getting yourself or your camera soaked.

Stones

Close-up view of the stone surface at All Saints offices, Newcastle

Twenty-two

Nice detail in the stonework.

Royal Insurance

Beautiful heraldic details on a building just off the Quayside.

Lions Revisited

A little bit of adjustment later....

Emerson Chambers Lion

One of many lovely details on one of Newcastle's loveliest buildings

But it's Friday!!

Of course, it doesn't say which Thursday...

Green and Red

Glow

Backlit to show off the fine structure of the geode, with a little flash in front to bring out the colour. Taken in the light tent using the Canon 100mm macro wide open to lose the background.

Late flowering

A Stone Rose

Doesn't look much like Ian Brown...

Take my hand

Detail of the statue of Cardinal Hume at St Mary's Cathedral, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Face

Stone feature at Holy Jesus Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne

Fangs for the memory

Detail of stone lion in a Newcastle doorway

The Web

Water droplets on spider's web, Autumn 2009

Autumn Leaves

Getting close with the E-P1 and the long end of the 14-42mm lens.

Wet Morning

While I was waiting for the bus, I took this shot of raindrops on leaves.

Bee

Cropped right down to show the detail. I'm quite pleased with the result...

Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly

Seen at St Fagans

Seahorses!

A close view of the tower of Newcastle Civic Centre

Big Thistle

Seen in Saltwell Park in August 2006.

Dried Thistles

Autumn Leaf 3
